PORTLAND, OR, USA — June 12, 2019
The Cool Roof Rating Council (CRRC) is pleased to announce that the recipient of the 2019 Marty Hastings Award is David Cocuzzi of the National Coil Coating Association (NCCA). The award was presented to Mr. Cocuzzi at the CRRC’s Annual General Membership meeting on June 12, 2019 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Mr. Cocuzzi has been a valuable contributor and expert technical resource to the CRRC for over twenty years. He first became involved with the CRRC when he was working for Akzo Nobel. In 2002, Mr. Cocuzzi was elected to the Board of Directors, in which he served as the first Chair from the roofing industry from 2005–2008. As Chair, Mr. Cocuzzi helped increase the organization’s revenue and stabilize its finances. He was also integral to the establishment of the CRRC Color Family Program, which enabled the coated metal industry to rate hundreds of products with the CRRC.
In 2010, Mr. Cocuzzi stepped away from the CRRC when he took a global role with Akzo Nobel, but returned in 2015 when he became the Technical Director of the NCCA. Mr. Cocuzzi immediately dove back into CRRC activities through his regular attendance at Technical Committee meetings and involvement in various working groups. In 2018, he was appointed to the CRRC Technical Committee as an alternate voting member (he previously served on the Committee from 2005–2006) and was welcomed back to the Board of Directors as an Ex-Officio member. The CRRC deeply appreciates Mr. Cocuzzi’s passion and commitment to the organization.
As part of this distinguished award, the CRRC has made a donation in Mr. Cocuzzi’s name to the Multiple Sclerosis Association of America (MSAA). The MSAA is dedicated to improving lives through ongoing support and direct services to individuals with MS, their families, and their care partners.
In 2011, the CRRC Board of Directors created the Marty Hastings Award in honor of its longtime Board member, Treasurer, and Technical Committee member who passed away from cancer. Mr. Hastings contributed greatly to the CRRC and is fondly remembered for his upbeat attitude, enthusiasm, and a sense of humor. To commemorate Mr. Hastings’ contributions to the organization, the CRRC created this annual award presented to a volunteer who has made outstanding contributions to the CRRC. Nominations for the award are solicited from the CRRC membership, and the recipient is selected by a Board of Directors-appointed committee. The award includes a $500 donation made in the recipient’s name to a charitable organization of his/her choice.
The CRRC is a non-profit educational organization formed in 1998 to develop accurate and credible methods for evaluating and labeling the radiative properties of roofing products, and to disseminate the information to all interested parties.
