PORTLAND, OR, USA — June 22, 2020

The Cool Roof Rating Council (CRRC) is pleased to announce Scott Kriner as this year’s recipient of the Marty Hastings Award. The award was presented to Mr. Kriner during the CRRC’s Annual General Membership webinar on June 17, 2020.

Mr. Kriner has been a valuable contributor and technical resource to the CRRC for over 20 years. He attended the CRRC’s second meeting during the early formation of the organization as a representative of cool metal roofing and would go on to serve as a member of the CRRC Technical Committee until his retirement earlier this year. Mr. Kriner was also the Chair of the Technical Committee (2011 - 2012) and an Ex-Officio on the CRRC Board of Directors (2011 - 2012). Over his tenure, Mr. Kriner made many contributions to the CRRC, including helping to develop the CRRC Product Rating Program. Most notably, he was instrumental in the development of the CRRC Color Family Program.

Mr. Kriner retired from the Metal Construction Association in March 2020. He was the association’s Technical Director. For nearly 40 years, Mr. Kriner was involved in the materials side of the building construction industry, with a focus on cool metal roofing technologies. Over that time, he served on the boards of various industry trade associations.

As part of this distinguished award, the CRRC has made a donation in Mr. Kriner’s name to the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation. The mission of the Foundation is to honor first responders in memory of firefighter Stephen Siller who was killed on September 11, 2001, and to help provide mortgage-free homes to veterans, first responders, and their spouses, who have been catastrophically injured or killed in the line of duty.

In 2011, the CRRC Board of Directors created the Marty Hastings Award in honor of its longtime Board member, Treasurer, and Technical Committee member who passed away from cancer. Mr. Hastings contributed greatly to the CRRC and is fondly remembered for his upbeat attitude, enthusiasm, and a sense of humor. To commemorate Mr. Hastings’ contributions to the organization, the CRRC created this annual award presented to a volunteer who has made outstanding contributions to the CRRC. Nominations for the award are solicited from the CRRC membership, and the recipient is selected by a Board of Directors-appointed committee. The award includes a $500 donation made in the recipient’s name to a charitable organization of his/her choice.

The CRRC is a non-profit educational organization formed in 1998 to develop accurate and credible methods for evaluating and labeling the radiative properties of roofing products, and to disseminate the information to all interested parties.
