Mr. Andre Desjarlais Receives Marty Hastings Award

Oakland, CA, USA – July 1, 2015

The Cool Roof Rating Council (CRRC) is pleased to announce Mr. Andre Desjarlais of Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) as the fourth recipient of the annual Marty Hastings Award. Mr. Desjarlais accepted the award at the CRRC’s annual Membership Meeting on Thursday, June 18, 2015 in Las Vegas, NV.

Mr. Desjarlais has supported and advocated for the CRRC for over thirteen years, offering leadership, research, and expertise as an Ex-Officio member to the Board of Directors since 2002. In addition, Mr. Desjarlais’ work on the CRRC Technical Committee has helped establish fair and unbiased standards and policies that have allowed the CRRC to expand rating opportunities to numerous roofing materials. Mr. Desjarlais’ extensive work at the ORNL facility has allowed him to help balance institutional and field performance knowledge with academia interest to develop nationally recognized standards.

As part of the award, the CRRC made a donation in Mr. Desjarlais’s name to a charitable organization of his choice, Danny and Ron’s Rescue, a dog rescue in South Carolina. As an owner of six rescued dachshunds, Mr. Desjarlais is appreciative of this particular organization and its dedication to this task.

In 2011, the CRRC Board of Directors created the Marty Hastings Award in honor of its longtime Board member, Treasurer, and Technical Committee member who passed away from cancer. Mr. Hastings contributed greatly to the CRRC and is fondly remembered for his upbeat attitude, enthusiasm, and sense of humor. To commemorate Mr. Hastings’ contributions to the organization, the CRRC created an annual award for a volunteer who has made outstanding contributions to the CRRC. Nominations for the award are solicited from the CRRC membership, and the recipient is selected by a Board-appointed committee. The award includes a $500 donation made in the recipient’s name to a charitable organization of his/her choice as well as complimentary Membership Meeting registration and travel costs.

The CRRC is a non-profit educational organization formed in 1998 to develop accurate, credible methods for evaluating and labeling the radiative properties of roofing products, and to disseminate the information to all interested parties.
