Become an Accredited Testing Laboratory

In order to become an Accredited Testing Laboratory, you must attend a Lab Training in addition to filling out the necessary forms below. Lab trainings are usually held in the summer or fall. Please contact us if you are interested in participating in the next training.

If you are a laboratory that is interested in becoming accredited with the CRRC so that you can perform radiative property tests on roofing products (and you have no significant commercial ties to any roofing companies), please read the following AITL information below. If you are affiliated with a roofing manufacturer, please read the AMTL information below.

Accredited Independent Testing Laboratory (AITL) Information

In order to become a CRRC Accredited Independent Testing Laboratory (AITL) -- a testing laboratory that is CRRC accredited to test Roofing Products and is completely independent from any Licensed Seller or Licensed Other Manufacturer -- from which radiative property test results are accepted, a company must submit the following documents and fees:

  • CRRC Accredited Laboratory Participation Application Form (CRRC-F-5);
  • Accredited Independent Testing Laboratory Agreement(CRRC-A-3);
  • Accredited Laboratory Annual fee (see CRRC Fees & Dues Structure);
  • Attendance at a CRRC Laboratory Training Session by at least one representative from your company who will be responsible for supervising or performing tests at the laboratory;
  • Statement of agreement to participate in annual round robin testing;
  • Statement of Independence that shows it has no significant ownership of commercial interest in a supplier or roofing product company and is not owned by such a company;
  • Demonstrate certification under ISO-17025.
    • Copy of the Scope of Accreditation and Certificate
    • Evidence of certification by a CRRC Approved Testing Laboratory Accreditation Organization, listed by the CRRC as complying with ISO Guide 58
    • A listing of test methods that the accrediting body has found the AITL capable of performing

AITL Renewal Requirements

AITLs shall provide a copy of their ISO 17025 Scope of Accreditation, along with renewal fees, to the CRRC no later than February 1. Notification of the renewals process will occur in fall of the previous year. Failure to do so will result in loss of CRRC accreditation and removal from the CRRC list of approved laboratories.

For more information on ongoing AITL and Rapid Ratings Laboratory requirements, please refer to the CRRC-1 Product Rating Program Manual, Chapter 2.0.

Accredited Manufacturer Testing Laboratory (AMTL) Information

Please fill out the necessary paperwork for becoming an AMTL, and read our instructional document ("How do I Become a CRRC Accredited Manufacturer Testing Laboratory?") which details additional steps of the process.  Please note that test results performed by AMTLs may only be used for Custom Color Roofing Products.

Become an Approved CRRC Rapid Ratings Laboratory

In order to become an approved CRRC Rapid Ratings Laboratory-- a testing laboratory that is approved by the CRRC to conduct the Practice for Laboratory Aging of Roofing Materials in order to develop simulated aged radiative property values for CRRC product ratings -- from which interim laboratory-aged radiative property test results are accepted, a laboratory must be a CRRC approved AITL or Test Farm and submit and meet the following documents and requirements:

  • CRRC Rapid Ratings Laboratory Participation Application Form (CRRC-F-17);
  • Copy of ISO 17025 Scope of Accreditation that includes ASTM D7897 (or statement that it will be updated to include ASTM D7897 upon accreditation renewal);
  • Attendance at a CRRC Rapid Ratings training session by at least one representative from your company, who will be responsible for supervising or performing Rapid Ratings tests at the laboratory;
  • Provide the CRRC with the name and contact information of the staff person within the testing laboratory who participated in a CRRC Rapid Ratings training workshop. This person shall be responsible for supervising or performing Rapid Ratings testing at the laboratory;
  • Notify the CRRC within 10 business days of any change in the Responsible Person(s) for CRRC Rapid Ratings. To maintain approval for CRRC Rapid Ratings testing, a laboratory must retain at least one Responsible Person to supervise or perform the practice and certify test results.

For more information on ongoing Rapid Ratings Laboratory requirements, please refer to the CRRC-1 Product Rating Program Manual, Chapter 2.0.

Renewal Requirements

Approved CRRC Rapid Rating Laboratories shall provide a copy of their ISO 17025 Scope of Accreditation that includes ASTM D7897, along with renewal fees, to the CRRC no later than February 1. Notification of the renewals process will occur in fall of the previous year. Failure to do so will result in loss of CRRC accreditation and removal from the CRRC list of approved laboratories.
